WHAT DOES YOUR SHOPPING TROLLEY SAY ABOUT YOU?

A few days back, my daughters and I had gone to Hypercity in Malad to pick up a few things (one of our last jaunts before summer vacation ends). As always happens when the kids come along, we strolled along the aisles picking up unnecessary things from the shelves. Things like lollipops (the sweet kind), easy-to-make crème brulee and vanilla pudding mixes (the very sweet kind) and chocolate donuts (the very very sweet kind) – you get the drift?

And, with our trolley groaning under all those superbly superfluous calories, we waited in the check-out line, using our time to pick up a few more mama-please-I-want-them-so-much-otherwise-I-will-bawl-my-lungs-out stuff like bubblegum and chocolate-bars.

In front of us in the queue stood a lean and muscled television actor (Gaurav Chopra? I have a BAD TV-celebrity-quotient) accompanied, presumably, by his slim and pretty girlfriend and two overloaded trolleys. I STARED – at them and at the trolleys:

Dozens of Sofit soymilk tetrapacks – check
Tubs of low-cal yogurt – check
Countless tetrapacks of Real Active fruit juice – check
Kilos of cucumbers – check
Quite a few watermelons – check
One tiny bottle of olive oil – check.

I looked from their calorie-low shopping trolleys to the six-pack abs and the sixteen-inch waist. Then, with a sigh, I looked at my calorie-flow trolley and my tummy-tyres (spares).

It figured.

You see, sweet folks need sweet stuff. They play so much they dont need to do any fancy gymming with all that cucumbers/soy/fruit juice stuff.

Besides its so much fun , just walking around , wishing and demanding stuff , and getting it without worrying about a thing. Can any of the TV types claim that priviledge ?

So what the Shopping trolley is shouting from the rooftops is that it represents two sweet girls....

That was a great post but I tell you what. When these two film stars have children the contents of their trolleys will change let me tell you!!! And their waistlines no doubt lol!!

LOL. Greener grass other side, eh? M sure u are a lot more liberated n happier with the calorie loaded food than their 6 pks and 16 inch waistline. ;)

Your children should take sweets, icecreams and chocolates as much as they like with proper aftercare of teeth. I from my childhood hated sweet things and over eating(in fact my stomach gets filled up with little food)but ultimately became a "Mota Haathi" and strangely my "Saathi" who likes sweets so much is as thin as a drumstick. It is true that food habits contribute a lot for maintaining a good figure but Hormone and hereditory factor is also equally important.

Guess we don't have an image to maintain and hence we eat to live...and what better pleasure there is in this world...

Hmm... I guess the equation is pretty simple. Once they start eating and stop earning. A paradox.... "papi peit ka sawal hai!"
For us we do our bit as well .. we have a full course Buffet meal with a DIET coke. Or more commonly on a vist to a relative's place we have 5 types of bengali sweets and a cup of "chini chara cha"

Hi Suranga, Swaram, Sujata, Pinku, Lilly, Purnima, Indyeah, Jyoti, Sukku, Suman,Vivek,

Thanks for the comfort and the consolation.

@ Pradipda,

It is the heredity factor which bothers me so much and in fact makes me fatalistic about any weight-loss attempt.

ooh! so many comments for this post!! I guess its because all of us have gone through this at some point ( Hmm... or everytime we go shopping... like me!!)

What's worse is having a trolley laden with high calorie stuff and then while in queue at the counter, having a husband who shuttles back and forth between the aisles and the trolley bringing in more calorie rich stuff!!

Lol! But I tend to agree with Lilly - when these folks have kids, their trolleys will have chocolates and bubblegum, too. :)
