TRAVELLING COMPANIONS

I travelled with Deepika Padukone today. As I was coming to work, I sat alongside a smiling Deepika, all demure-pretty with a clip in her hair and a sunny yellow dress, posing against an impossibly-blue sky and a fairy-tale cottage with a riot of flowers in the garden.

Surprised? Don't be. Ever since I came to Mumbai, I have travelled with the likes of a fresh-faced Salman Khan (with long-hair, cute-smile and his shirt-on, looking like he did in his Hum Aapke Hai Kaun days). And with Amitabh Bachchan, when he was still a beardless and helmet-haired angry-young-man with an intense gaze and a sneer on his rouged lips. And a cherubic-fresh Preity Zinta, or an angelic-vacuous Aishwarya - often dimpling down at me or gazing down at me from both sides. Or sometimes a Shah Rukh Khan from his floppy-haired, puppy-eyed days, who looks ready to break into a K-k-k-kiran every time the vehicle stutters in a traffic jam.

No, I don't travel in a Merc. I travel in auto-rickshaws. And one of the greatest amusements is to find whose image will be there on the inner walls of the rickshaw when I climb in. Glossy, glamourous and larger-than-life travelling companions I can look at when the rickshaw is stuck in a traffic jam.

And imagine myself in the company of stars. After all, Mumbai is the City of Dreams, and a little bit of tinsel gets rubbed off on me even when I am caught in the middle of suburban roads and daily chaos.

Unfortunately, all auto-rickshaws do not have Bollywood stars as interior decoration. Some have lights and blasting sound-boxes, some have shabby velvet and some have shiny rexine. But, for me, the shine is missing from a rickshaw-ride if I don't have a brooding Amitabh by my side. Or a rosy-cheeked Aamir. Or a twinkling Juhi Chawla.

I'm not choosy. Just celebrity-struck when I'm traffic-stuck.

Lucky you, I generally travel with various gods and goddesses. Once I traveled with Chunkey Pandey but I do not count that. He is definitely not a star in my opinion.
It's good to have a companion when you are stuck at traffic in amchi Mumbai.

funny post :) you can create magic with even the tiniest of the things in life :)

When I was in Mumbai, I actually saw a lot of real actors and I was awed by their presence near me..as close as standing just at the next sink in the theater washrooms :)

And I agree to your experience in Autos..sometimes the auto walas have more than one fav actress and the auto displays the affection towards lot of actresses :P

I remember travelling once long time back with amitabh in his god like avatar of silsila days in a white jacket and romantically gazing through me to the opposite end of the rickshaw where there was rekha with her blushing eyes and open hair..I felt the romance so much that day, it was difficult to get down from that rick!!

Those who put such pictures hardly realise that these will come handy in a traffic jam. Very interesting post.

YOU are just the best! honestly, I don't know why, people fail to write the way you do nowadays. I mean this is what I wanted to write like when I was in school and instead received endless punishment, not to mention the low grades. promise to follow you from now on.

Few years back I had gone to Elephanta Mahotsav and on the way back I shared the launch with the artist, Vani Ganapathi ( Kamala Hassan's ex-wife ), excellent Bharat Natyam Dancer, who was sitting just next to me and Prachi Shah, sitting on opposite side bench. They were returning after their perfomaces. It was full moon night. We had nice chat .I just cannot forget the golden moment.

Hahaha! I knew at the first line what you meant! In fact I always thought I would take pictures and do a similar post but that never happened. Once I traveled with two hot bare chested men and made sure I sat right in the middle not being partial to anyone.

Salman and John ;)
